Sustainable building techniques in Bejuco
We have hit another milestone, as small as it may seem, and finally have our containers mounted on the pedestals that were curing for the past few weeks.
The ecological footprint using recycled shipping containers is low and our first foray on the beach estate into a new office for EcoVida Properties and related interests, along with a manager’s suite.
It is exciting for the team and the owners of EcoVida Properties as well as the mother company EcoVida Holdings. This small piece of the adventure began last night at sunset when the crane arrived to reposition the containers on pedestals constructed weeks ago. With time to cure, it was time to mount the containers in their position and the crane arrived late – not a shock in Costa Rica, so we rolled with it.
Mounting the containers in relative darkness and aligning them properly was another tiny adventure that we like to refer to as Pura Vida. In the end, things worked out great!
The two storey structure will host a deck on two levels for great views and ocean breezes. We will be using recycled materials as much as possible and experimenting with some fantastic technology to create the premier building on the EcoVida estate.
One of the interesting things found when moving these 4 ton containers into place was the remarkable resilience of the plant life in this country. Everything grows. Even this example of sprouting plant life that was underneath one of the containers – dead center, with no access to sunlight for about a month. Amazing.
Pura vida!
