San Jose is the capital and heart of Costa Rica!
The city of San Jose is located in the central valley and is home to 1/3 of the entire population of Costa Rica. The elevation of the San Jose at 1125 meters above sea level gives it a mild, temperate climate that ranges between 17 to 30 degrees Celsius year round.
Many people just pass through San Jose on their way to the beach or mountains but it has a culture and sights that shouldn't be over looked. Its shopping, museums, parks, historic buildings and theaters could keep you busy for weeks and it is a great base for taking day trips outside of the city. It is also a very popular destination for dental and medical tourists who come from all around the world for excellent medical care and treatments.
Theaters and Museums:
Museo de los Niños (Children's Museum)
Museo Nacional de Costa Rica (National Museum)
Museo de Oro Pre-Colombiano (Gold Museum)
Teatro Nacional de Costa Rica (National Theater)
One of the most popular day excursions outside of San Jose is the Poás Volcano. Have a peak at our blog posting about Poás.
